No settlement in sight in McLouth case

It appears as if the Pirates and All-Star, Gold Glove outfielder Nate McLouth are headed for an arbitration case.

The hearing is set for Tuesday, Feb. 17, the same day the first full-squad workout is scheduled in Bradenton, Fla. for spring training.

The gap between the two camps is quite large. McLouth asked for $3.8 million while the Pirates offered $2.75 million.

Dougie Fresh,

Do you think the buccos are making a mistake here? I think this young lad deserves what he is asking...he's probably the only one to take the offspring to go watch.

These cases have a tendency to go to the last minute and can literally up until the hearing begins.

I have a hunch a last-minute one-year deal will get done only because i do not believe that management wants to go through a hearing where a lot of feeling get hurt, especially when it is with their best and most marketable young player coming off the best season of his career.
