It's clear to see after watching Jack Wilson's return Tuesday night just what he can bring to the Pirates' lineup.
Many reasons as to why Wilson was needed back were mentioned Sunday. http://www.observer-reporter.com/or/streetstory/05-25-08-sunday-bb-column
But is impact was felt in his first at bat Tuesday night. Wilson put down an excellent bunt and beat the throw to first with a head-first slide. A bad throw allowed Wilson to get to second and put runners on second and third with no outs. Though the Pirates didn't get a run in that inning, Wilson put the Pirates in an excellent position to score.
It's that kind of energy the lackluster Pirates' offense needs if it will make any run at that magical .500 mark before the team is dismantled before this year's July 31 trade deadline.

I think you mean "mediocre" .500 mark. And why are you gushing over Jack Wilson? All he brings to the Pirates offensively is a .269 lifetime batting average. Did I say mediocre?
Considering it is your Pirates that we are speaking of, "magical" if not "impossible" might be a better word.
As for Wilson, "gushing" might be a little strong. However I won't back down from my comments. He does bring certain intangibles to the team that other players simply do not. Oh yeah, he's also one of the top defensive shortstops in the MAJORS, not just N.L. The trio he is replacing (Bixler, Rivas and Gomez) have committed the most errors at the position in the majors this season. That is not mediocre.
Let us review: 269 career average. Mediocre is mediocre is mediocre. And the Pirates are paying more than $5 million a year for this. And they are not my Pirates. They might be your beloved Pirates but don't pin those sad-sack losers on me.
